Screen Printed Napoleon Dynamite T-shirt

Our local library has a really great selection of movies to rent for free.  We brought home four Potter family favorites this past weekend, including the cult classic Napoleon Dynamite.  Sweet!  As soon as we saw the Vote for Pedro t-shirts again, we knew what our DIY teen craft project would be for the week.  Using our trusty Tulip Screen-It and a retro style font, we had our sweet t-shirts whipped up in a flash.
Vote for Pedro, and all of your wildest dreams will come true.

Chevron Ombre Pillow Case

I've never been happier about gas than I am right now. I don't usually get excited when I hear the work chevron because all I seem to think about is the big bold red and blue shape that takes all of my moolah.  However there is one thing I get really excited about and that is fabric paint. You can do so many great things with tulip fabric paint! Shapes, patterns and designs that are in your head can finally come to life. No special orders, no waiting for someone to make it, just you and the paint. That is all you need to create fun awesome things! Today we are making a chevron ombre pillow case that you can throw on a bed, couch or outdoors like I did.

Plastic Animal Necklaces DIY

I love making jewelry and accessories, so the plastic animal craft trend inspired me to incorporate cute animal heads into my latest project!  Some folks may think these are a tad bit creepy, but I think they turned out really cute and cool.  They are definite conversation starters for sure.  You can make them in a few simple steps...let me show you how!

DIY Rorschach Test Backpack

This is one of those absurdly simple, low stress, maximum impact kind of crafts.  Most DIY back to school projects lean in the feminine direction, but this one could work just as well for a guy as a gal.  Use a washable white backpack (this is 100% cotton) and some black fabric paint and let your kid or teen do this themselves.  This would look fabulous in neon colors too, but I love the bold simplicity of the black and white.  They key is keeping it neat so you get a nice clean impression.  I'd give your teen a black Tulip fabric marker to take to school and let their friends write what they see on the backpack.  So it's interactive, fun and a great conversation starter.

Spreading the Crafty Cheer at My New Crib

I have been in my new house a couple of weeks now. Sure, there are still boxes in the garage and plenty of knick-knacks that have yet to find a home - but my I Love to Create Crafts are settling in just fine. Crafts make the casa so I have been sprinkling the handmade goodness all around my new abode.

HIKING DIY: Silkscreen Bandanas & Shirts

This Sunday I leave on a venture I never imagined: I'm going to spend a weekend at Glen Canyon National Park (Lake Powell). I'm not at all an outdoor kind of chica, but some blogging friends of mine entered a contest to win this trip - we called ourselves The Latina Blogstars, we wrote an essay - and we won one of the spots! You can read all about it here on my blog! Every time I get nervous for a big project or event - I craft it out, that's the only way I can relax and chill my vibe. So in this case, I decided to silkscreen T-shirts and bandanas for our team members!

This is a great idea for family camping trips, hiking excursions with friends, even vacations or parties. And it's super easy, I'll show you how I got this look.

How-to Make Fabric Bows

When Avalon started buying fabric bows last month, I chimed in with my mantra (insert eyeroll...here), "Why buy it, when we can make it ourselves?"  Yes, it's more fun than a barrel of glitter living with me.  Still, I persevered and Avalon agreed to humor me.  We grabbed some lovely fabric and proceeded to whip up a bevy of beautiful bows that could be used for all sorts of fun DIY projects.  Hair bows?  Check.  Shoe bows?  Check.  Bow ties?  Uh, check.  These are so easy to make and so adorable, you'll find it very addicting.  Plus, Aleene's Fabric Fusion Peel and Stick Tape means no waiting for glue to dry or burning your fingers on hot glue! What's not to love?

Decoupaged Wooden Arrows

Right now I'm working on a little organizational wall for my boys where their chort charts hung up and  their artwork will be displayed.  I wanted the space to feel like a gallery wall and I decided to add these arrows to the wall for a fun pop of color.  While my signs are arrows, you can use this concept to make others types of signs or even to recover old frames.

DIY Tie Dyed Tissue Paper

It's almost time to start slowly "wrapping" up Summer so I wanted to create something light, fluffy and fun for you. We all have special occasion's in our life whether it's a wedding, birthday or anniversary. Maybe you like to give back to school gifts to teachers or a simple gift to a special person in your life. Today I will show you how to make that gift a little more unique with Tie-Dyed tissue paper. Sure you can go out and buy some boring solid colors but how cool will it be when you tell someone you created that tissue! I am pushing things a little further by using tissue paper as wrapping paper, so come on let's get started!

DIY Zipper Bracelet With Chains

Gold chains and a punk rock revival are huge trends for fall. So why not add a little edge to your accessories with this DIY Zipper Bracelet with Chains. Using two zippers with the chains in between makes this a wide statement bracelet. Have fun and show your edgy side, stack it with more gold chains or wear it alone, either way you’re sure to make an impact.

Arrow Baby Boots

Baby boots have been something on my list of things to make my new little baby girl.  However, while walking the aisles at Michael's the other day I saw they had some there for only $7 (and less if you use your coupon).  That saved me a lot of sewing time.  They were right next to all the I Love to Create products and I thought they'd be really fun to embellish.

So, I play off the recent trends of neon and arrows and turned them into these little arrow baby boots.

DIY Earring Organizer

If you are anything like me, you are constantly searching for a more efficient way to organize your jewelry.  It's sad to admit this, but my jewelry is mostly clumped into boxes and bags and I spend far too much time digging around to find both earrings from any pair. These small painted laser cut frames are the perfect (and pretty) solution to your earring storage needs. You can drill these with room for more earrings, hang some up and down and some sideways, add hooks to some for your necklaces and bracelets, arrange them on your dressing or bedroom wall and before you know it, you've got a lovely display for your closet or bedroom that helps you keep your baubles organized and untangled!  You can also opt to use two frames and sandwich some mesh screen in between, though I was pleasantly surprised at how many earrings these wires held.  I think you will be too!

Make your own rolling stamp

The best art is oftentimes the one without any rules, that's why this technique using a lint roller as a rolling stamp is so cool!  It's fun and experimental and you can great for creating abstract backgrounds for your mixed media and fabric paint projects!  Kathy a.k.a. Crafty Chica introduced me to this technique through her Quick Tips video she did below. The most awesome thing about this creative stamp is that you can a wide variety of stamps for under $2...what a score!

Tie-Dye T-Shirt Necklaces

If you find yourself near a Hobby Lobby this Saturday chances are good that you might come across an I Love to Create blogger like myself whipping up some tie-dye magic. This coming Saturday I'll be in Round Rock and would love to see your smiling face. Bring your own pre-washed T-shirt and I'll get it all dyed up for you. After all of these demos I am amassing quite the collection of tie-dye shirts. My husband has incorporated them in to his wardrobe happily, but I stole a few from his drawers and decided to make them into jewelry. You know me, if it will sit still long enough I will make it into jewelry.

Make your own Glowing Slime

The other day I saw an amazing post from a Pumpkin and a Princess where she showed how to make your own glow-in-the-dark slime!  I really loved her photography and the idea of making my own slime, so I had to do a test of my own using the Tulip and Aleene's Tacky Glue products we have in our studio. And the slime turned out great!  So great that I had to take it around the office and show everyone what I had made.
