DIY Sunglass Cases

When Scott and I were in Amsterdam this year, we were so excited to go to the Van Gogh Museum.  It was a tremendous experience, with the beautiful works of Vincent Van Gogh including masterpieces such as Almond Blossom, The Bedroom and of course, Sunflowers!

After the tour, we ended up in the museum store where I found this little fabric rectangle in a plastic pouch for cleaning your glasses.  The pattern on the fabric is a print of Sunflowers, and I thought it would be fun to have, since I probably clean my glasses about a dozen times a day.... I know.
Neat freak.
Then I got the idea that the fabric would be perfect to make a little pouch for my sunglasses.  Plus, it would be handy to have a pouch made from the same fabric I can use to clean my glasses.

All I needed was a good adhesive to glue two sides together, right?  So I reached for my stash of super-duper fast and easy to use Aleene's® Instant Tacky 1/4" Double-Sided Tape.

Now if you don't have one of these glass cleaner cloths, you can pick them up in tons of stores, usually by the cash register.  Or, you can cut a piece of fabric or felt into a 6 x 7 inch rectangle with pinking shears.  Step #1 is to apply the tape on one of the short ends of the fabric (6-inches).  Then cut a piece of tape 3-1/2 inches long and apply from the corner, half-way up the longer side. It kinda makes an "L" shape.

Step #2 is to peel off the red liner from the tape.
So far, so good :)

Step #3 is to fold the fabric in half and press the edges of the pouch together firmly with your fingers to insure the adhesive is set.
That's all there is to it, and I love my simple little glasses pouch.  It fits in my skinny cross-body bag, I use it all the time, and I think it's a great idea for a stocking stuffer or teeny gift for someone.

I hope you are enjoying my DIY journey and keep coming back for more ideas, tips, how-to's, and projects to
craft, create, and decorate.

Boom I got your glitterrrr, I got your glueee! Yes, I am singing as I type this. It's not even Thanksgiving but the Christmas holidays are right around the corner. Christmas plays peek-a-boo earlier and earlier each year. I mean, I totally get it. Everyone makes billions of dollars but come on people! We have to give thanks first, right? Just to be fair I will give thanks to the abundance of ornaments floating around my house right now. I think Santa's elves threw up a little in my living room. POOF….

Kanzashi Flower Frame Hack

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and this simple frame hack is the perfect gift!  Put a photo inside or print a sentiment like we did.  We've included the printable here.  We found the frame in a three pack at Target for a few dollars, added some ribbon and faux gems and turned some fabric into a fabulous Kanzashi Flower, Aleene's adhesives made quick work of throwing it all together in a flash.  Miss Avalon and I worked on this design together, she picked the quote, helped assemble the frame and took the step by step photos.  Crafting is so much more fun when you do it together!

Sparkling Sweatshirt DIY

A few years back I was working on a new logo with my mother who is an amazing graphic designer.  One of the ideas we were exploring was using my brand name letters around a collar like a necklace. I loved the logo, but ended up going with something else.  Still, that idea of letters forming a collar stuck with me.  Flash forward to this week and a sweatshirt I scored at Target for under six bucks on clearance.  It's so soft and comfy and made of recycled plastic bottles, so it's eco friendly to boot!  I loved this sweatshirt hack from Crafty Chica, so I decided to work a little crafty magic using Tulip and Aleene's products, creating a virtual collar and bracelets.  I love how this turned out!

Sparkling Ornaments DIY

I'm super excited about this simple sparkling ornaments DIY!  I've been playing around with Tulip's new flexible stencils lately, and it occurred to me that they might be really fun on Christmas ornaments.  I collect the old Shiny Brite ornaments, and what I love best about them is the glittered accents.  You can use the Tulip Body glitter and adhesive for this, it works beautifully!  Add a little maribou inside and you have a sparkling, glamorous accent for your tree in a few simple steps. I had some tinsel ribbon in the studio, and it tied everything together perfectly. (Pun intended.)  Here's how you can make some Sparkling Ornaments of your own.

DIY Cat Ear Headband

Last winter while visiting Urban Outfitters, Avalon and I were both smitten with a fabulous rhinestone accented cat ear headband.  Avalon liked it so much, she wanted to make one for herself.  We put our heads together to devise a way to make one using black felt, Tulip Glam-it-up crystals in black and a store bought headband.  A thick craft wire to give it some stiffness and some Aleene's Fashion adhesives helped to bring it all together.

Fuzzy Monster Snap Bracelets

As soon as I spied these fun fur snap bracelets in the Halloween aisle at Target, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.  They're only $1.00, so I scooped up three!  Using various sizes and colors of googly eyes, some craft felt scraps I had in the studio and three types of Aleene's adhesives I made an armful of fuzzy monster snap bracelets that are sure to scare up some fun!  These are so easy and inexpensive to create, they'd make a great craft project for kids or teens.  (Though I'm a fully grown woman and I would rock these in a hot second.

Chevron Ombre Pillow Case

I've never been happier about gas than I am right now. I don't usually get excited when I hear the work chevron because all I seem to think about is the big bold red and blue shape that takes all of my moolah.  However there is one thing I get really excited about and that is fabric paint. You can do so many great things with tulip fabric paint! Shapes, patterns and designs that are in your head can finally come to life. No special orders, no waiting for someone to make it, just you and the paint. That is all you need to create fun awesome things! Today we are making a chevron ombre pillow case that you can throw on a bed, couch or outdoors like I did.
