Tie Dyed and Beaded Lattice Tank Swim Cover Up

Inspired by spending some time at the beach and remembering a macrame book written by my boyfriend's father, I tie dyed and beaded up a swim cover up for myself. Typically into MUCH more modest swim suits but unable to find much to fit me late in the season I would up rocking a string bikini which was kind of sort of fine in the water but a bit uncomfortable when taking to the sand. This tank is cute and gives me a little bit more coverage, at least in my head, so I can be comfortable walking and swimming!

Tie Dye with a Twist

Tie dye is all about twists and folds and walking away with something completely unique and different every time. You can tie the exact same style of shirt the exact same way and there will always be differences to tell them apart.

But why do so many only tie dye men's white cotton shirts? There are so many other options out there for us ladies to wear tie dye that is more flattering than an over-sized men's shirt. Today I'm going to show you tie dye with a bit of a twist. There are no rules only surprising results!

No-Sew Owl Applique T-shirt

I love the look of fabric applique, but I just don't have time to painstakingly sew an applique to a t-shirt. Aleene's Fabric Fusion to the rescue! I used it to glue an adorable owl print applique on some t-shirts for my son, and it was so quick and easy I just had to share with you!

Hand Stamped & Dyed Fabrics

header-printing-fabric-stamps-dreamalittlebigger
I often want things that don't exist and that is a big motivator in being a crafty gal. If I can't find it, I make it. And when I was envisioning some fabric for pillows that was white, with red poppy-like flowers and couldn't find it, I decided to hand stamp and dye some up for myself! The process is really easy, tons of fun and quite rewarding!

7 Ways To Decorate A Light Switch

I originally set out to decorate 5 light switch plates, but ended up getting to 7 -- I just couldn't stop! For most of them, I used the new "Always Ready" Aleene's Tacky glues (they arrive in the checkout aisle -- no the glue section -- of JoAnn stores starting in November!). It's smart new inverted packaging that has the glue all ready to go -- in other words, no need to shake the bottle anymore to get the gluey stuff into the tip. They are great -- my only challenge was to remember to store them back in their base, tip down!
A light switch plate is a pretty sweet blank canvas -- small in dimension and fairly low-stakes (in case the creative process doesn't go as planned). But when it does work, what fun! Which switch plate theme or technique would you take and run with?

Artisan Tie Dyed Hobo Bags

I have loved tie dye for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid my dad pulled over to buy my sister and me a tie dyed shirt out of a VW van. I still wear that tie dye today. As an adult I've not been deterred by tie dye at all. I LOVE it. The bright colors, the unexpected results all add up to one amazing way to pep up one's wardrobe.

After meeting the guy who used to tour with The Dead (yep, The Grateful Dead) as their official tie dye artist and chatting up all things tie dye I learned to appreciate even more that this isn't just a crafty hobby, but an art form. The Artisan Tie Dye Kits from Tulip are perfect for professional, artistic results!

Cool Hues Shibori Top

I discovered shibori completely by accident. I was browsing a department store and saw a fun shirt with a really interesting pattern and was told that the method used was probably shibori. So I did some searching and found that it's an ancient Japanese resist method that basically involves scrunching, twisting, folding and/or mashing a fabric and then dying it. There are several ways to do it and the results, as with any tie dye, are different every time.

It's no secret that I am crazy about tie-dye and one of the biggest reasons I love being an iLoveToCreate blogger is for all of the tie-dye projects I get to do! And if you think tie-dye is just for tee shirts, well, you've got another thing coming!

Asymmetrical Off the Shoulder Galaxy Shirt Tutorial

This week has been chock full on firsts for me. I bought my very first dress form --> her name is Lola; she was a showgirl. I made my very first galaxy tee. And now I'm sharing my very first ever cut up tee tutorial.

I LOVE cutting up tee shirts. It's amazing how something slouchy and unflattering can become something form fitting and chic. And I know some equate tee shirt makeover with skimpy but that just doesn't have to be the case. Though I tend to wear some off the wall things, I'm pretty conservative in my wardrobe tastes. As I was told very recently, "40 is the new 30 and you're dressing like you're 40, girl." And this shirt is totally made over but even an ultra conservative girl is gonna rock it even with some age appropriate bermuda shorts :)
