Be My Valentine Felt Wreath
by Cheryl Ball

Materials
Aleene's® Fabric Fusion® Permanent Dry Cleanable Fabric Adhesive
Tulip® One-Step Dye™ (Red & Fuchsia)
Tulip® Cordless Heat Setting Tool™
Tulip® Glam-It-Up!™ Iron-On Crystals™ (300 Clear Pack)
– Plastic Disposable tablecloth or large plastic garbage bag
– Floral and Craft Ring,12” flat compressed wood
– Cutting mat
– Ribbon, 2” wide coordinating color and ¼” wide for hanger
– Wool Felt, white ¾ yd. 18” wide
– Rotary Cutter
- Rotary Cutter Clear Ruler
- Fabric, cotton scrap of coordinating solid color

Instructions
1. Wet the felt with water and spin on gentle in the washer to remove excess water.
2. Cover work surface with plastic.
3. Wearing rubber gloves, add water to the top of the dye bottles. Replace cap tightly. Shake until dye is dissolved.
4. Place damp felt on plastic. Squeeze the Red dye onto about half of the felt.
5. Starting on the edge of the Red and overlapping an inch or so, squeeze the Fuchsia dye onto half of the remaining area of the felt but saving about 1” of dye in the bottle. Add water to the dye in the bottle to make a light pink and squeeze onto the remaining felt. The felt should be saturated in dye. Wearing gloves, press down with fingertips to push the dye into areas that are lighter.
6. Cover felt with plastic. Let sit 4-6 hours. Wash in a large load of water with a small amount of laundry soap on a gentle cycle. Line dry.
7. Using a cutting mat and rotary cutter, cut ½” strips from every section of color. Where the dye over lapped it will be a little different color and this is desirable so cut those areas also.
8. Make a snip in the end of the cotton coordinating fabric and tear 2” strips. Glue the end of a strip to the craft ring with Fabric Fusion and start wrapping around the ring. Proceed by adding another strip, gluing as needed while wrapping to keep in place until it is completely covered.
9. Feeling through the fabric, find one of the small holes and push a pencil or sharp object through to the back. Run the small piece of ribbon through and tie in a knot to use as a hanger.
10. Starting with the lightest color of felt, add a small amount of Fabric Fusion and roll into a pinwheel continuing by adding another color with glue ending with the Red felt. Change the order of color to make all of the pinwheels unique and ranging in size from 3” to 2 ¼”. Refer to photo.
11. Arrange the pinwheels on the ring until they fit all the way around while touching each other. Squeeze out Fabric Fusion onto the ring under the area where each pinwheel will sit pressing pinwheel into the glue.
12. Cut ¼” strips of the red felt and roll into small 1” pinwheels and glue on top of each intersection where the large pinwheels meet. Glue in place and press down with fingertips. Let dry flat.
13. Attach the red and pink crystals with the heat tool. Scatter them over the large and small pinwheels. Pressure is not needed when attaching the crystals as long as the tip of the tool is touching the crystal.
14. Tie the 2” ribbon into a bow and glue the backside of the loops at the top, onto the pinwheels.

31 Days of DIY Halloween – Going Batty Tote

bat trick or treat tote#

I just think the bat wings on this bag are SO clever! And Cheryl Ball did her magic with 3-D paints to add the spots, face, BOO! You know, if you add 3-D paint that glows in the dark, it will be perfect for a dusky treat-or-treat trek.

Materials:
Aleene's® Fabric Fusion® Permanent Dry Cleanable Fabric Adhesive

Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint™ Value Packs and Sets
10 pack Glo

– Scissors
– Tape
– Cardboard to fit inside shirt
– Black stiff felt
– White chalk – sharpened to a point
– Paper towels
– Black tote bag
– Sewing pin
– Patterns (click here for pattern)

Instructions:
1. Insert cardboard into tote.
2. Cut out wing pattern, place on black felt, lightly trace around with chalk, tracing two, then cut out.
3. Start flow of paint on paper towel using an even pressure on bottle for a smooth line. Place wings on work surface, making sure they are mirror image. Outline each wing with Gray Glow Paint. Let dry.
4. Loosely cut apart face, legs and word from pattern sheet. Flip over patterns then tape to window; this will allow you to see design through paper. Use chalk to lightly trace along design lines. Position “BOO”, chalk side down on tote where shown then press in place. Hold with hand so it won’t shift then run a finger over lines to transfer pattern to fabric. Remove pattern. Position face and feet in place then transfer designs.
5. Fill in areas with a thick application of Glow Paint – the paint will flatten as it dries. Add different size dots to sides of bag as shown. Use pin to pop any bubble that may form. Let dry.
6. Add Fast Grab Glue to back of wings in about 1” from each side then press in place. Let dry.

Tacky Tuesdays - Til Death Glue You Part

"I wanted to share this photo today from a wedding I officiated over the weekend. Not only did I officiate the ceremony, I also helped Cheryl Ball create the bride, groom, and archway using myself, woodsies, mini flowers, faux greenery, and paint. Takes the phrase "Til death glue you part" to a whole new level, huh?"

Today is TACKY TUESDAY featuring Tacky Glue! Every week on the iLoveToCreate blog, we will bringing you a glimpse into our friend Tacky Glue's wild and crazy life! To follow all of Tacky Glue's adventures, follow him on his "Adventures of Tacky Glue" Facebook fan page!

We're re-designing our studio!

"FLIP OUR STUDIO"

At iLoveToCreate we have been given the green light to turn our design room into an ultra-uber design studio that we are proud of and excited to create in every day. That's the GOOD news.

Now for the BAD news... Okay, you have to realize that it took YEeeears for this space to become engorged with tons of craft supplies, tools, sewing machines, computers, and projects. Of course, we have to BLOG about it. And it is a work in progress which we will finish in the next 2 weeks.

And... Yes, as expected we have the pics and story to show the metamorphosis of this huge space.

So, what you are about to see might change you forever. Hide the small children, warn your mother, and you might want to peer through your fingers….

The West side of the studio is where you can find Chloe Tatro, our copy writer who is often our in-house model, and Designer Suzie Shinseki who creates fabulous ceramics and crafts every day.... somewhere in there.

Here's the East side of the studio where Designers Kathy Murillo and Cheryl Ball and Allee Marderosian create amazing designs amidst the clutter.

More of the East side where my Pattiewack design space is tucked behind there somewhere. Can you find the sewing machine?

This is our conference table, which sometimes is so covered up we just forget about it and put chairs in a circle.

The sink & clean-up station, where paint brushes go and never are seen again.

I warned you! Can you imagine looking for a box of pins, a bag of crystals or a bottle of Aleene’s Tacky Glue? Trust me, there are some amazing designs coming from this chaos, but it is time, time, time to get some serious scrub done.

We've rolled up our sleeves and grabbed our brooms and scrubbies. I’ll be posting more behind-the-scene pics and show how we totally re-designed this pile of crafty chaos into a seriously sweet design studio.

So in the words of Tim Gunn, "Designers, make it work!"

The Fountain Saga continues....

The Duncan Ceramic Fountain is still being assembled in the iLoveToCreate design studios, and we are getting close to being finished. The four faces of the seasons were glued to the crown today. These plates are absolutely breathtaking and the artist who painted them is Suzie Shinseki. Her artistic designs never cease to amaze me.

Another of our designers, Cheryl Ball painted the fountain title, "For Everything There is a Season." Her skills as a decorative painter are fabulous, and she's fast, too!

The brains & brawn of the operation is Sam Carter, one of our talented graphics designers. He is also a skilled cabinet maker, and has built a beautiful column as the foundation and also assembled the ceramic pieces and fountain. Believe me, this has been a team effort.

Here are some more shots of the fountain in progress...

Tomorrow is the final day for the fountain to get ready and ship to the CCSA Convention in Kansas City. Sam will be building a crate to house the fountain, and the delicate packing will take place. But not before Scott has a chance to get some photography of our piece of art. I can't WAIT to see it all together!

And the saga continues....
