31 Days of DIY Halloween – Love Hurts Vampire T-shirt

This is my all-time favorite Halloween shirt! Cheryl Ball made it after we brainstormed how to use the technique where you paint one half of the design and then fold the shirt in half. When you unfold it you’ll see PERFECT LIPS! It really IS fabulous and fun to do, and you’ll make all the other girls jealous at the party when you show up in this glittery shirt. Love hurts.

Materials
– Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint™
Deep Red Slick
White Slick
– Tulip® Fashion Glitter™
Red Fine Jewel
Silver Fine Jewel
– Black t-shirt
– Pink chalk sharpened to point
– Scissors
– Iron
– Freezer paper
– Stiff brush
– Paper towels
– Scratch paper

Instructions:
For best results, please read all instructions before beginning project. Refer to photo for color and design placement.

1. Wash shirt without softener to remove sizing. Dry in dryer then iron smooth.
2. Cut a piece of freezer paper to fit inside shirt then insert to shirt. Fold shirt in half lengthwise pressing fingers along fold for stiff crease then open shirt.
3. Cut out lip design from pattern sheet. Line up edge along fold on shirt then use chalk to lightly trace around pattern. Remove pattern.
4. Start Flow of Deep Red 3D paint on paper towel using an even pressure on bottle for a smooth line. Starting at upper lip next to fold, squeeze a continuous line of paint within area in a back and forth motion squeezing up and down following the couture of lips. To create ink blot effect, immediately fold shirt over along fold line lining up sides of shirt. Use fingertips to press over paint making sure to work right up and over fold. Open shirt to reveal design.
5. Immediately sprinkle Red Glitter over wet paint. Wait a few minutes, and then carefully pounce off excess glitter onto scratch paper. This glitter can be put back in bottle and re-used.
6. Use chalk to lightly draw teeth where shown then fill in with White Slick.
7. Use White Slick to add drops from lips if desired then sprinkle with Silver Glitter. Let paint thoroughly dry – thicker paint may take a little longer.
8. Pounce excess glitter onto scratch paper then lightly brush with hand to remove excess.
9. Wait 72 hours to wash. Machine wash warm on gentle cycle. Do not use harsh detergents or bleach. Remove promptly and line dry. To iron, turn garment inside out, being careful not to touch design with iron. Do not dry-clean.

I thought we’d escaped the phenomenon of Twilight. Avalon showed no interest in the books at all...until last month. Then suddenly she wanted to read the first one. So we bought it. She read it in one day. Then we got the second book. Alas, she’s hooked. I thought in light of this and the incredible popularity of this series and the films, I’d be remiss as a teen craft designer if I didn’t come up with something Twilight themed.

I have always loved silhouettes. I don’t know what it is about them that I find so intriguing, but I do. I’ve been meaning to work on a silhouette craft project for a few years now, so this seemed like the perfect match. I figured fans of the film would recognize the silhouettes of the actors who play Edward and Bella...and just in case they didn't I added a “Bella & Edward 4-ever” to the other side of the framed images. You are welcome to use the template I’ve made. It’s sized to fit inside a 2”x2” frame and you’ll need to clean up any rough edges when you cut it out. I made the ornament and thought it would be a cute pendant, so I did a variation. It’s the same thing, slightly different.

2”x2” gun metal Ranger Memory Glass frame
2 2”x2”Ranger Memory Glass squares
19mm Lucite leaf bead from The Beadin' Path
2mm freshwater pearls

The King & Queen Font 9 pt. black “Bella & Edward 4-ever” centered and cut to fit frame

1. Right click and save image. Print silhouette. Cut out carefully with scissors.

2. Cut out tiny heart from red area of plaid holly paper. Dab a small amount of dimensional glitter on heart and allow to dry.

3. Trace with 2” glass square and cut out plaid holly paper to fit frame.

4. Cut out holly shapes to edge image on both sides of frame. Add a thin layer of dimensional glitter. Allow to dry.

5. Assemble the collage using your glue stick to adhere layers.

6. Print text. Trace with 2” glass square and cut out to fit frame.

7. Place front and back of collage together between layers of glass.

8. Slide into frame.

9. Glue three pearls into a small Lucite leaf with Liquid Fusion glue. Allow to dry.

10. Glue leaf to front left corner of frame with Glass and Bead Glue. Allow to dry.

11. Spread a thin layer of dimensional glitter on frame edge. Allow to dry.

12. Attach a thin satin ribbon to loop at top of frame.

(For the pendant, spread a thin layer of dimensional glitter on cut out image. Shake on a generous amount of Crafty Chica glitter in Be Bop Black. Allow to dry. Insert with text on back as before into frame. Glue a small satin bow to a red button with Liquid Fusion. Allow to dry. Glue button to frame edge with Glass and Bead glue. Spread a thin layer of dimensional glitter around frame edge. Attach to a chain with a 10mm jump ring. All materials used in these designs were given to me to use in my work except for the satin ribbon.)

Instructions:

“Love Bites” Women’s Tee

1. Prewash and dry T-shirt. Insert Fashion Form between layers of tee.
2. Type out the words “Love Bites” on computer in desired font and size then print. Flip wording over and trace over letters with chalk pencil. Flip back over and place chalk side down onto top of tee. Refer to photo for placement. Rub hands over paper, transferring lettering onto tee.
3. Start flow of Black Slick 3D Fashion Paint on a paper towel, applying an even pressure on bottle for a smooth line. Trace and color in “Love Bites” with Black Slick. Refer to photo. Let dry.
4. Use felt pen to draw (or trace) a large heart onto contact paper. Use craft knife to cut out heart, leaving outside edges intact. Peel backing from heart stencil and place onto tee where shown. Run a finger around edges to prevent paint seepage.
5. Squeeze a puddle of Crimson Red Matte Soft Fabric Paint onto a paper plate. Dab flat end of makeup sponge into paint then dab onto fabric within stencil. Let dry then repeat until desired opacity is reached. Let dry.
6. Squeeze two dots of White Slick onto upper portion of heart. Let dry, then use True Red Slick to create “blood” dripping out from white dots. Refer to photo.
7. Use Black Slick to outline heart and blood drips. Let dry.

“Killer Love” Men’s Tee

1. Prewash and dry T-shirt. Insert Fashion Form between layers of tee.
2. Type out the words “Killer Love” on computer in desired font and size then print. Flip wording over and trace over letters with chalk pencil. Flip back over and place chalk side down onto top of tee. Refer to photo for placement. Rub hands over paper, transferring lettering onto tee.
3. Start flow of White Slick 3D Fashion Paint on a paper towel, applying an even pressure on bottle for a smooth line. Trace and color in “Killer Love” with White Slick. Refer to photo. Let dry.
4. Use felt pen to draw “slash” marks onto contact paper. Refer to photo. Use craft knife to cut out marks, then peel backing from stencil and place onto tee where shown. Run a finger around edges to prevent paint seepage.
5. Squeeze a puddle of Crimson Red Matte Soft Fabric Paint onto a paper plate. Dab flat end of makeup sponge into paint then dab onto fabric within stencil. Let dry then repeat until desired opacity is reached. Remove stencil and let dry.
