Kwanzaa Holiday Card

Celebrate African heritage during the week of Kwanzaa, December 26 to January 1. Aleene’s® Crystal Clear Tacky SprayTM is the perfect tool for making festive cards and invitations for parties. Pair bright cardstock with your favorite Kwanzaa symbols and sayings!

Materials List

  • Aleene’s® Crystal Clear Tacky Spray™

  • Miscellaneous

    •   Newspaper
    •   Textured cardstock - orange, red
    •   Scrapbook tissue paper - yellow
    •   Cardstock - green
    •   Printed Kwanzaa symbols and words
    •   Sharpie - black
    •   Blank cards and envelopes - cream
    •   Plastic tablecloth
    •   Scissors
  • Patterns

    Instructions

  • Cover work surface with plastic tablecloth.
  • Spread newspaper out where spraying will occur to protect from overspray.
  • Cut a piece of red cardstock that is slightly smaller than the face of the cream card. Refer to photo. Spray back of red cardstock with Aleene’s® Crystal Clear Tacky SprayTM and press onto front of cream card.
  • Cut a piece of yellow scrapbook tissue paper that is slightly smaller than the red cardstock piece on front of card. Spray back of yellow tissue paper with Crystal Clear Tacky SprayTM and press onto center of red cardstock on card. Refer to photo.
  • Cut three strips of textured orange cardstock and position over top, middle and bottom of yellow tissue paper on card. Adhere with Crystal Clear Tacky SprayTM.
  • Referring to your printed Kwanzaa symbols and words, draw your favorites onto green cardstock with the black Sharpie. Cut them out and adhere to orange strips on front of card with Crystal Clear Tacky SprayTM. Refer to photo.
  • Follow these steps to create a whole set of cards and/or invites!

Kwanzaa Candlestick Set

Celebrate the season with a decorative touch.

Materials List

  • Aleene's® Platinum Bond 7800® All-Purpose Adhesive

  • Miscellaneous

    •   Aluminum foil
    •   Spray sealer
    •   Narrow name sign, 2-1/2” x 18”
    •   Utility sponge
    •   Terra-cotta mini pots: (2) 3” x 4”, (7) 2-1/4”, (2) 1-3/4“, (1) 2-1/2“ (optional: use the same size
    •   Natural jute, 3 ply No. 20
    •   Votive candles: (1) black, (3) green, (3) red
    •   Brushes; #4 liner, ¾” flat
    •   Acrylic paints; black, red, green, purple, yellow 

    Instructions

    1. Base coat the top and bottom of name sign, and all pots, including insides, black.
    2. Paint three 2-1/4” pots and one 1-3/4” pot red, leaving rim black.
    3. Paint three 2-1/4” pots and one 1-3/4” pot green, leaving rim black.
    4. Paint remaining pots purple, leaving rim black.
    5. To form candle cups, glue bottoms of same color pots together. Set aside two large purple pots which will be the base of the candleholder.
    6. Red pots: On upper pot, paint yellow spots. Paint black strokes around the yellow spots and random purple swirls. On bottom pot, paint yellow stripes and purple zigzags.
    7. Green pots: On upper pot, paint irregular yellow rectangles similar to giraffe spots. Dab some purple in centers of rectangles. On bottom pot, paint purple squares with a dab of red in centers.
    8. Center purple pots: Paint a red inverted triangle on the top pot and paint wavy red, green, black and yellow lines surrounding the triangle. On bottom pot, paint red tiger stripes.
    9. Remaining large purple pots: Paint black tiger stripes and outline with yellow. Let dry.
    10. Sponge gold around rims of all pots and around edge of name sign.
    11. Spray seal name sign and all pots. Let dry.
    12. Cut a 12” piece of jute for each candle cup. Double each piece of jute and tie around the center of each cup. Make a knot, trim and fray ends.
    13. Glue bottoms of the two large purple pots to the base of the name sign. Let dry. Turn over.
    14. Glue purple candle cup to center of sign. Continue gluing candle cups, three red to one side and three green to the other side until all are in place.
    15. Use crumpled foil to elevate votives in candle cups.

Enhance your Kwanzaa gift giving with a colorful symbol African culture and heritage. This traditional-looking holder adds special meaning to your gift and is easily assembled with felt, Aleene’s® adhesive and Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint™.

Materials List

  • Aleene's® Fabric Fusion® Permanent Dry Cleanable Fabric Adhesive

  • Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint™

    65408 Gold Metallics
  • Miscellaneous

    •   Needle and thread
    •   Felt Squares – black, green, red
    •   White chalk sharpened to a point
    •   Sewing machine with matching thread
    •   Scissors
    •   Sewing pins
    •   Paper towels
  • Patterns

    Instructions

    1. Cut red felt for envelope.  Layer and sew red felt horizontally.  Sew on three sides to create pocket.
    2. The front section can be cut slightly shorter on one side so back shows.
    3. Sew a ¼” seam then trim to a scant 1/8”
    4. Cut out dip in top layer if desired when finished.
    7. Pin and cut patterns pieces from felt then glue in place. White chalk can be used to draw patterns onto felt if needed.  Brush off excess chalk after glue is thoroughly dry.
    5. Test flow of 3D Fashion Paint on paper towel using an even pressure on bottle for a smooth line.  Detail with Gold Metallics in pattern shown.  Keep tip of paint bottle wiped with paper towels for clean lines.  Let dry.
