iLoveToCreate Teen Crafts
Peeps Stenciled Napkin with Jelly Bean Ring
Margot Potter for Avalon Potter!

Avalon is on Spring Break and alas she caught a cold.  I stepped in to make this easy peasy stenciled napkin and beaded ring.  I used cardboard to make the stencil, but it's very important to wipe off the excess seepage under the stencil between each use on all four corners.  If you can find 'freezer paper' it makes a much cleaner and easier to use stencil.  We LOVE Peeps around here, this is my third Peeps themed Easter craft!  I had to buy a few boxes for research purposes, but keeping them from being devoured was quite a feat!

Step away from the Peeps.

Tulip Soft fabric paints and Crafty Chica glitter make quick and easy work of this design and the Glam-it-up metallic crystals are perfection for eyes.  Use Aleene's Jewelry Glue to secure the knot on your napkin rings.  This is a great way to get teens off of their cell phones and doing something fun.  Make some coordinating place mats and you'll have a delightfully cheerful Easter table.

Materials
Fabric Napkin
Thicker cardboard for stencil (thicker than a cereal box, but not too thick!)
Chunky colorful beads to make a 4" ring
Tulip Soft Paint in Petal Pink
Crafty Chica glitter in Frida's Fuchsia
Tulip Glam it Up metallic crystals in black (2 for each rabbit)
.8mm clear elastic cord (I used Elasticity)
Aleene's Turbo Tacky Glue
Aleene's Metal and Jewelry Glue

Tools
Chain nose pliers
Paint pouncer
Craft knife
Fine tip marker

Wash napkins to remove sizing.  Iron to remove wrinkles.  I freehand drew the rabbit, it's very simple.  He should be about 2-3" tall.  You want him to fit the corner of your napkin.  If you need a guide, try using an actual Peep for reference, this also allows you a snack while waiting for the paint to dry.  Use a craft knife to carefully cut the shape out and create a stencil.  Use pink paint and paint pouncer to stencil on napkin corner.  You can also opt to add rabbits along the shorter edge of your napkin, that's up to you.  Hold your pouncer straight and hold stencil firmly to prevent paint bleed.  Be sure to wipe off stencil front and back after each use.

Before rabbits are dry, pour a small amount of glitter on each rabbit, shake around for full coverage and shake off excess. Do them one at a time! The paint should be tacky enough to grab the glitter.

Add eyes using Glam it Up crystals, I use a pair of chain nose pliers to pick up crystal, dip in glue and attach to rabbits. Allow rabbits to dry before using!

Thread beads on elastic cord. Tie ends and pull tightly. Make a double overhand knot and pull tightly. Add a dab of jewelry glue to your knot and let it dry overnight.

ILoveToCreate Teen Crafts: Anchors Away Nautical Necklace T-Shirt

Anchors Away T-Shirt
Margot Potter for ILoveToCreate Teen Crafts
“Mom crafted, kid approved.”

I have a long standing love for all things nautical and am a particular fan of the French sailor look. I’ve been wearing variations of it for years. Avalon and I went shopping this weekend and she kept fawning over necklace embellished t’s and stripey sailor style tops. Thusly these concepts came together and this idea started formulating in my creative noggin.

You can change this up to suit your style and ditch the nautical theme for a rocker tattoo inspired look or a prim and proper girly look with flowers and pearls. You’ll just need a pre-made stencil (check out the Tulip Fashion Graffiti line) or a permission free image you can size and print to create your own. Tulip fabric paints and Aleene’s Fabric Fusion will help bring your idea to life. Then just sew on some jump rings and attach some chains to make a removable faux necklace look.

Materials
Striped Cotton T-Shirt (pre-wash)
Permission Free Anchor Image sized to fit scale of shirt
Tulip Slick Red Fabric Paint
Folder or thick cardstock for Stencil
Aleene’s Fabric Fusion
Sewing thread (I used red to match the anchor)
Beadalon SP Rolo Chain
2 Swivel Lobster Clasps
3 SP 10mm jump rings
2 SP 6mm jump rings
Scrapbook Adhesives EZ-Runner Tape Runner
Offray Nice and Narrow black satin ribbon with polka dots

Tools
Craft Knife
Cutting Board
Foam Brush
Sewing Needle
Sewing Scissors
2 Pairs Chain Nose Pliers

1. Select image. If you are making your own stencil, size it to fit scale of shirt. Print image.

2. Attach image with EZ-Runner to thick cardstock or a manilla folder. Use craft knife to cut out stencil.
Leave a bar or two around the anchor hole at the top so you don’t lose that hole when you stencil.

3. Use foam brush to stencil image on shirt on the left side. Allow to dry. Remove stencil.

4. Create a tiny bow and adhere to top of anchor with Aleene’s Fabric Fusion. Allow to dry.

5. Sew the large jump rings to the top seams on either side of the neckline of your shirt. Sew a third large jump ring to the top of the anchor on the left side of shirt.

6. Drape chains to find best length and attach the ends to lobster clasps on both sides using a small jump ring and two pairs of chain nose pliers. Thread the longer chain through the jump ring at the top of your anchor.  Attach a second chain length that is slightly shorter to the jump ring at the bottom of your clasps. Remove chains when washing garment.

Graffiti Canvas

Teen Crafts
“Kid crafted, Mom approved.”

I’ve spent the past few weeks preparing for a major trade show called CHA. It’s the big industry event for arts and crafts and all of the biggest companies will be there showing their new product lines, including the fine folks from iLoveToCreate. I asked Avalon if she’d like to do a ‘guest project’ for this week’s Teen Crafts post using the fab new Fashion Graffiti line from Tulip. She spent several hours making this awesome canvas for her BFF Emma. I think she did a terrific job.

I whipped up my own quick canvas using the headphones stencil, sea sponge dabbed pink paint tagger and the Tulip Fabric canon spray in black with the Tulip Fabric Paint Canon.

You can find these mini-canvases at arts and craft stores and there really great fun . Who doesn’t like a blank canvas?!
