Vintage Inspired Chenille Valentine People

Recently I had a valentine wreath making party with some girlfriends. All the wreaths turned out adorable, but some of my crafty friends took things a step further and made vintage inspired pipe cleaner people to put on their wreaths. Never one to be out crafted I had pipe cleaner envy and today with the help of some adorable clay faces the crazy talented Lisa Kettell had sent me I made my own.

– Chenille pipe cleaners
The trickiest part about this entire project is finding the right pipe cleaners. We had trouble finding the ones that went from thin to puffy. This shape helps to make the pipe cleaners look like limbs. In the end I had to get multi-color packs and steal the Valentine colored stems out of the bag.
Once you have the correct pipe cleaners you can easily see from my pictures the bending that I did in order to give these little cuties bodies. I also had some extra fluffy pipe cleaners that I used as winter hats and the occasional dress.
I used Clear Gel Tacky Glue to attach all my parts. The pipe cleaners bend and can stay together that way, but you will need to glue to attach the heads. I used these adorable faces by Lisa Kettell which I am completely smitten on. However, my girlfriends used the faces from vintage Valentine's and you could also use photographs. I should make some of my kids. Wait, hold on while I run and go do that!
These would be great to give out to friends at a Valentine party. I propped mine up in one of my sparkly Valentine trees. I need to pick my favorite to add to my wreath.
I'm pretty in love. I think I will be making a leprechaun and bunny version in the very near future.
