Magazine Holder for Mom

Moms and magazines go together like Sunbutter and jelly. Even though I adore Pinterest and faithfully follow my blog roll, nothing beats curling up on the couch with a new magazine. What mom would not like a subscription to her fave mag and a spiffy magazine holder this Mother's Day. SUPPLIES Cardboard Magazine Holder (mine is from Ikea) Crafty Chica Paint White Scissors Collage Pauge Matte Fabric Paint Brush As I mentioned I got my cardboard magazine holders from Ikea. However, you can easily make your own from an old cereal box. The first thing to do is coat your box with Collage Pauge decoupage medium. Wrap your magazine holder in fabric. Be sure to put the seam in the back. Also make sure there is some overage. Smooth out all the lumps and bubbles. After you wrap and trim you will have some rough edges on the inside of your magazine holder. At this point it is up to you if you are done. Truthfully, once the holder is full of magazines you will never see the inside. However, if you are like me and it will keep you up at nights go in with some white Crafty Chica paint and paint the inside white. All that is left to do is order mom her favorite magazine subscription to go along with her new fancy holder. If your mom is like me (or my mother) she already has a stack of magazines on hand ready to fill her new holder with. Visit us on Facebook!

Mother's Day Trading Cards

Moms love sentimental objects, especially when they are presented in pretty packages. The idea behind these Mother's Day Trading Cards is that each is themed to a particular memory: maybe from a family vacation, a birthday party or a trip to the park. You get the idea. It works for kids of all ages and skill levels. They type or hand-write a memory and glue it to the back of a playing or trading card. On the other side, create a photo collage using personal pictures (color copies), rub-on letters and other goodies. Don't forget to dress up the box to match. Mom can keep them close by, and whenever she feels down, she can pull one out and read the memory, think of you and smile.

Supplies
1 deck of playing cards and box
Color copies of photos
Printed memories, sized to fit on card
Embellishments
Scissors
Crafty Chica® Chunky Glitters™
Aleene's® Paper Glaze
Aleene's® Original Tacky Glue Stick

Directions: Give each kid (and Dad, too) an equal number of cards. Leave part of the deck blank so Mom can decorate her own later. Cut out the printed memories and mount them to a piece of scrapbook paper. Use the glue stick to attach one to each card. On the other side of each card, glue a picture and embellish it with a headline and other details using glitter, doodles, etc. Decorate the box and put the finished cards inside, gift-wrap and give them to her.

Variations: If you run out of memories, print Mom's favorite quotes, poems or passages from books.
