26 Fab and Totally Doable Shoe Makeovers

Shoe makeovers are something that I absolutely love. In fact, I've done over 60 myself! Shoes can be a great and inexpensive canvas and a way to walk around in some art! Check out these 26 fab shoe makeovers that you can totally do your self. Yep, totally doable. So bust out your tie dye, fabric paints and fabric markers, grab a pair of sneakers (or two) and let's do this thing.

DIY Summertime Swirly Shoes

 

Hey everyone! It's SUMMERTIME! YAAAAAY! I found these cute kicks on clearance at Target for five bucks. (Score!) I LOVE the color, but since it's summertime I thought I'd make them pop even more by adding yarn swirls and gems. 

– Shoes
– Yarn
– Fabric Fusion
– Gem
– Cold Glass of lemonade (recommended!)

 Squeeze a quarter sized amount on to shoe. Pinch the end of yarn and apply it to the shoe. Next, simply wrap around in a spiral/swirl. Repeat until you get the look you want. I like the different sizes of circles that I ended up with!

Now add a little drop of glue in the center of each swirl and add a gem. You can do the matchy-matchy thing or add some contrast like I did.

I love my new shoes, they are so cute and are great for the beach or pool side parties! Now, where is that glass of lemonade??

Fabric Scrap Shoes

This is not my first time at the shoe making rodeo. Typically I have made pairs for my children (booties and chucks), but from time to time I whip up a pair for myself (whale slip ons and cameo mary janes). After a recent trip to Nordstrom where I was eyeballing a pair of colorful Toms I had new shoes on the brain. Today over at BlogHer I spotlighted the most adorable pair of Toms made to look like owls and it sealed the deal - I must make myself some new shoes.


SUPPLIES
Plain Shoes (I got mine from Pearl River)
Quilting Yo-Yo's
Fabric Scraps
Fabric Fusion Glue
Paint Brush
Scissors
Water


The first thing I did was raid my stash of fabric scraps. I don't hardly sew a lick, but nothing gets me more excited than coming across a bag of vintage quilting fabric scraps at a flea market. I have used the scraps to make ping pong ball necklaces, bracelets and more. Anywhoo, get your scraps together. The more random the better as far as I am concerned.


Using Liquid Fusion glue I started attaching my scraps to my plain white shoes. I diluted my glue with water and applied it with a paint brush. I would trim, glue and brush as I went. There is no right or wrong way. The more wet the fabric is the easier it is to mold to your shoes.


One tip is to fold the strips over the edges of the shoes to give it a nice finished look.


Rather than covering the straps in scraps I opted for some vintage quilting yo-yo's that I had.


After the shoe is completely covered how you want it allow the shoes to dry completely.


After the shoes are dry they might be a little stiff. A few rounds in the washing machine and some everyday wear should help with that.


I could have spent $40 at the mall, but I like my own custom quilted pair of shoes even better.

Pretty Payless Shoe DIY

We must say we were quite enamored by these pretty high heeled sandles in our office! Lauren Binci, our Product Engineering Specialist here at iLoveToCreate created them and as you can see she's just as talented of a crafter as she is a product engineer!

Here's how she created the shoes from start to finish!


Lauren started off with a plain pair of shoes purchased from our local Payless Shoe Store!


She then added pretty flower accents and doodles all over the shoe using Tulip® Fabric Markers.


After she was done with the markers, she added metallic and shimmery dots using Tulip® Beads in a Bottle™ Paint.


Lauren then added some plum ribbon for laces! Here's a detail of the final product!

Great job Lauren! You did a fabulous job!

Sparkling Down to Your Toes

Create sensational shoes for the fraction of the cost of store bought! Glue on bows with Aleene’s® Platinum Bond™ 7800 All-Purpose Adhesive and you know they’ll be hangin’ in there long after the last dance. Add glistening glamour by brushing on Aleene’s® OK to Wash-It® glue and sprinkling on Tulip® Fashion Glitter™.

Instructions

1. Make 2 bows with ribbon. Add a drop of 7800 All-Purpose Adhesive on back of bow and place one on each shoe. Let dry.
2. Pour some Fashion Glitter Bond on foil and with sponge applicator dab 1 coat on bows and sprinkle Fashion Glitter on top of glue. Lightly tap shoes to shake off excess glitter. Let dry.

Walk this Way Pumps

Kick start a tired pair of pumps with some shimmery bliss from Tulip® Fabric Spray Paint™! Create foxy faux studs with Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint™ then walk your way to style stardom.

Materials
– Tulip® 3D Fashion Paint™
Silver Metallics
– Tulip® Fabric Spray Paint™
Asphalt, Snow, & Sparkling Star
– Plastic tablecloth
– Fabric pumps – black
– Paper towels

Instructions
1. Cover work surface with plastic tablecloth. Set shoes on prepared surface.
2. Spray White Fabric Spray Paint randomly all over shoes. Let dry.
3. Follow by spraying Glitter Sparkling Star all over shoes. Let dry.
4. Use Silver Metallic 3D Fashion Paint to create dots that look like studs on both heels and tips of shoes. Refer to photo. Let dry.
