DIY Concert Shirt

So you have the tickets to the concert, but what do you wear? You can create the perfect concert look without paying for it. I am headed to Lady Gaga concert tomorrow (eeek!!) in true DIY fashion! It is super simple to create your very own shirt to show support for your favorite performer with Tulip Soft fabric paint. And if you want to go all out like I did- you can complete the whole look with hair chalk and face paint.

MAYA IN THE MOMENT: Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas) Facepainting Tutorial!

Hello! Since Halloween is just around the corner, and everyone is doing face painting tutorials....I thought I should do one! This is Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas! I love Tim Burton, and when I was little I asked my parents to paint me as the Corpse Bride. But Nightmare Before Christmas is the original TB classic, so much respect to my girl, Sally!

SUPPLIES:

First I mixed the white and the blue and tested it on my hand. I love that these paints are super creamy and you can blend colors really easily.

You want to pull up a picture to use as a guide! I used this one:

As far as the base coat - I added a dash of green to get a teal undertone. Next I covered my whole face using a make-up wedge (you can also use a soft paintbrush), and started with the painting the eyes and lips. For the eyes, create two large white ovals that go around your eyebrows and under your eyes as well. you can paint on top of the blue, or do the white separate from the blue.

Next use the deep red to create curvy lips, outline them in black, like Sally. For face painting, you always want to exaggerate the details to look more dramatic!

Next, I had my dad help me with the eyes and eyelashes. Since I couldnt see....haha :) Paint on the stitches on each end of your mouth and up the side of the face. Don't forget the eyelashes and eyelid contouring, use a darker shade for that!

I could  have left it like this, but I wanted to do something cool with my closed eyelids, so we painted dots, again like Sally! Once you're done, paint your neck a little bit darker blue and add the stitches there too.

You can make a maroon wig out of yarn or buy one at the costume shop. As far as the rag dress, look at the thrift store for a patchwork style. Or you could take a solid dress and use Fabric Fusion and glue fabric swatches all over it.

Lastly add the last painted on stitches and you're done!

Here is my other Halloween facepainting tutorial!

Fun With Tulip Body Art

In preparation for Halloween, I told my nieces and nephews I would bring all my face painting stuff to a family dinner so we could practice.  I found out I'm definitely not a face painting pro, but we all had some serious fun.

Each child took a turn, requesting any random thing he or she could think of for me to paint.  I was really excited to try out my Tulip Body Art supplies.

Here's our work:

Naturally, my son wanted a superhero mask.  I know some schools don't let kids wear masks for Halloween, so this would be a great alternative.  The paint went on quite opaque.  That's great because little kids don't hold still enough for second coats.

One niece wanted big eye make up with glitter and then swirls all over.  Like I said, I'm not an expert.  Let's call this one the exotic mermaid princess?

Another niece wanted pink and glitter.  The body art kit has this glue you spread on and then blot with glitter.  It's cool stuff.

On nephew wanted the Cars logo.  That was a bit tricky, but we made it work.

Of course there had to be some Batman action.  (I think I might have made the mask look more like Cat Woman.  Whoops :)

And one nephew let me practice my beard that I'll paint on my youngest son for his viking costume for Halloween.  (Don't worry folks.  It's root beer.)

I just might bring out the face paints a little more often.  It was like having our own little carnival.  The kids loved it and the Tulip face and body paint we used isn't hard to wash off.  (I was a little nervous that my sisters were going to kill me if it was hard to wash off.  No worries.  It was a breeze.  Whew!)

Maya in the Moment Teen Craft: Tulip Face Paint Kit!

LINK

It's Halloween season! Finally! Being the drama queen that I am, I love to dress up early in the month. Last weekend I babysat my little cousin and decided to try out the new Tulip® Face Paint Kit with her. At first I thought I'd be doing all the painting, being the one in charge and all, but the kits come with stencils and make up sponges that are super easy to use. Bella ended up painting MY face!

The kit comes with two sheets of stencils, two sheets of tattoos, paints and tools to apply them. The paints are creamy and dark, but you can add a little bit of water if you want to lighten them or do shading. There is also an instruction booklet to give you ideas of what you want to paint. I like that you can add something simple like little stars on your cheek or you can go all out and cover your whole face. I'm definitely going to use my kit again for school spirit week and when I go out with my friends this month.

You know how I know this kit is good for little kids (aside from a teenager like me)? Because Bella had been crying all day because her tooth was super loose and about to come out. Once we started,  she completely forgot about her tooth. Well, until it finally came out. Yah there were tears but they didn't last for very long because she wanted to get back to face painting!

You can buy the Tulip Face Paint kit at Walmart stores during the Halloween season. Hurry and go get one, you'll have gobs of fun!
