Ombre Dyed Jute Macrame Plant Hanging Baskets

The macrame plant hanger trend seems to be going strong. Luckily you no longer have to rely on a score at the the thrift store or learn how to tie a slew of knots to get one of your own. These days many big box stores are carrying various jute hangers. They are cute as is, but with an ombre dye job they are even better.

Neon Ombre Heart Freezer Paper Tee

Are you in  love with the neon trend as much as I am?  I don't know about you, but I'm not an all-over neon color girl.  Neon is best for me when used sparingly!  That's why I made this cute neon heart tee.  It's just the right amount of neon to rock and it's super easy to make using the Tulip Neon Fabric Spray paints!

Alphabet Ombre Tote Bag Tutorial

I'm not usually a big fan of foam stickers. My kids love them and play with them all the time. After watching a video by Dear Lizzy where she painted some foam stickers with an ombre effect I was inspired. I remembered a fun alphabet tote bag from an issue of Kids Crafts 1-2-3 and I was off with a handful of my kid's stickers and some spray dye.

SUPPLIES
Foam Stickers
Tote Bag
Tulip Cool Color Spray

The first you want to do is wash your tote bag to remove any sizing. After your tote bag dries adorn with stickers of your choice. I went with an alphabet theme. Be sure to hang some of your stickers off the edges.

Once your bag is coated you can start to spray. I used a red, hot pink and then added some light pink paint to a pink glitter spray. Spray the three levels with some slight overlap for an ombre effect.

Allow your tote bag to dry completely and remove stickers. I love the way the bag turned out. I already have visions of making a dinosaur T-shirt version.

DIY Spring Ombre Blouse!

Hey guys! It's finally spring time!!! (Yaaaaaaaay! *awkward dance*) I was shopping around and saw ombre EVERYTHING. I conveniently had a blouse that needed a stain covered up (darn you sketti red sauce!!!) So I decided to ombre my blouse!

SUPPLIES:

•  Tulip One-Step Tie Dye (Purple)
• Brush
• Bowl of water
• Garbage bag

  First, make sure you cover up your surface with a garbage bag and your hands with gloves! Tie Dye is not very friendly! Next, generously squeeze the dye on the bottom of the damp shirt. (This is going to be the darkest part) If you want it darker, Black dye at the bottom should do the trick!

Next, dip the brush in the water and spread the dye up. Do this each time so it gradually looks lighter.

After this, lay the garbage bag down and hang your shirt to dry. If you just leave it flat, the color will start to crawl up!

Los Angeles fashion blogger, BoiFromIpanema has a really cool video tutorial on ombré dying a pair of jeans. He visited our iLovetoCreate studios this past summer and learned all about the process of ombré dyeing. Here he shows step-by-step how to find the median point AND how using black dye on the edges can help finish the look.

MAYA IN THE MOMENT: Ombre Dyed Dress

You're probably thinking - "What did she do to that dress?" Actually it started out how you see on the left, a patterned print with a white background. I love the dress but thought it would look even better with an ombre style coloring added. It was an experiment that worked!

Just because fabric has a print on it doesn't mean that you can't add some dye techniques. Once you realize this it will make you see fabric and clothes in a while new way! I really dig the southwestern design of this dress, but wanted it even more colorful.

Here is how I did it...

First off - make sure your dress is cotton or rayon. Polyester won't hold the dye. Aside from that, we are good to go!

Supplies:
Patterned print dress
Tulip® One-Step Dye™ orange, yellow, and fuchsia
Plastic table cloth
Scissors

Line your work surface with a plastic liner or garbage bag. Open the boxes and add water to the dye bottles according to package directions.

Dampen the dress with a spray bottle of water. If your dress is brand new, wash it first to remove sizing.

Add rubber bands (optional) and apply the darkest dye on the bottom third of the dress, and the medium in the center and lightest on the top. Roll up the dress in the liner and let it sit for six hours. This will ensure that the dye bonds with the fabric fibers.

After six hours, open the plastic and cut away the rubber bands. Wash the dress in your washing machine on the lightest cycle with cold water, hang dry. 

And here it is! She how the bottom is hot pink, the middle is orange the the top is yellow? It really adds a special touch to the dress, it makes it more...more...MAYA IN THE MOMENT!!!!
