Easter Chic Mug

Here Chicky,Chicky! Easter is almost here and I can't even begin to tell you how much I love decorating eggs! There is ONE thing however that I have never made...an Easter mug. I love items that are versatile and can be given as gifts. I sometimes tend to do lot's of designs but today I wanted to show you how to make something sleek and clean but still have a punch when you are done with it.

I swear I am just in love with this cute chic! She can be used as a coffee mug or a planter! The great thing about this project is kids can do it and they will have so much fun. Let's get started!!!

Make Yarn Wrapped Easter Eggs

We're trying to eat healthier here at Casa de Potter, so the Easter Bunny won't be bringing much in the way of sugary sweets.  Still, an Easter Basket needs a little something-something to perk it up!  Enter...a basket of pretty yarn wrapped paper mache eggs!  These are so easy to make in three easy steps using Aleene's Fabric Fusion sheets and these sparkly yarn bon-bons were super easy to wrap.  I learned this technique from Miss Crafty Chica during our Women's Show classes this summer, it's so much easier than using glue! The key to success is starting at the top, grasping firmly and wrapping tightly.  We tried stripes, but found that one color in one continuous thread worked best.  We are so happy with how these turned out, we may make some spheres to use for year round decor.

What You Need
Paper mache eggs
Thin sparkly yarn (I used Lion Brand Bon-Bons)

1.) Gather materials.  2.  Wrap one sheet around egg.  Cut off excess on top and bottom.  Gently press sheet to adhere film.  Carefully remove.  Use the strips you cut off to fill in any gaps.  3.  (Egg is sticky, so try to do this in one sitting!)  Grasp bottom of egg firmly.  Start a coil working from yarn skein.  Wrap moving egg and pulling yarn so it remains taut as you wrap.  Take your time to prevent gaps between yarn.  4.  Wrap a contrasting yarn around center of egg and tie into a bow.
You could make these with a variety of yarns, twines and fibers, all for a completely different final effect.  This is so much fun, you'll be looking for objects to wrap!
I hope the Easter Bunny is good to you and yours!  Hippity hoppity!
xoxo, Madge

Peep Tie Dye Easter Pillows & Video Tutorial

Peeps are my all-time favorite candy at Easter, and that's where I got my inspiration for these 'peep pillows' that I made for the iLoveToCreate website this month.
Do you like them as much as I do???

So, of course I just HAD to take them to KSEE24 for our monthly craft segment. Here's a shot of my demo set-up.  I'm all ready to show the world how to tie dye with the Tulip One-Step!

I also grabbed a cute bunny robot on a tie-dye t-shirt that would be perfect for any kid to wear to the easter egg hunt.  I mean, even if he or she didn't find the prize egg, they'd still be happy wearing this shirt, right?

Okay, so I had to ham it up for the camera when I was waiting for my time to come up.... it's always
a little nerve-racking since it's LIVE and anything could happen on live television...especially with tie dye...

Here's the video of me and the Host, Alex as we showed everyone just how easy it is to tie dye anything you want, any color you want.  She was so excited and concentrating so hard, you'll see her sticking her tongue out just like a cute little kid trying to get it just right....

Easter Egg Mosaic Earrings

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail. You know what that means, time to put on your Easter craft thinking caps. In a random stroke of luck I recently discovered a vintage Easter crafts idea book from PAAS full of egg inspiration. One of my favorite projects was an eggshell mosaic lamp. A lamp seemed like a whole lot of eggs, but a pair of earrings was totally doable. Today for I Love to Create let's make Easter wearable.

SUPPLIES
Eggs
Plain Earrings
Aleene's Tacky Glue
Easter Egg Dye
Pot
Water
Stove
Mugs

DYE EASTER EGGS
Come on you know you are going to dye eggs anyway. Make a quiche, egg salad or omelet and get crafty with the dyed shells. First I hardboiled my eggs. You can find egg dying kits at most grocery stores. Dye your eggs following the instructions on the package, I opted for hot pink and lime green.

PEEL YOUR EGGS
Once your eggs are dyed peel the shells. I broke my shells up into pieces. I started my drawing a large circle in the center of my earrings with Tacky Glue. I filled the circle in with pink eggshells. I found the best method was to start with a layer of larger egg shells and then add smaller pieces where there are blank spaces. Once the glue had started to dry a bit I went back over the circle with more Tacky Glue to act as a protective coat and anchor down all my pieces.

After I did the pink circle I went back and filled in the rest of the earring with green eggshell.

EGGSTRA-SPECIAL EARRINGS
Once you are done you have a pair of earrings so cute you could wear them any day of the year, not just Easter.
