iLovetoCreate Teen Crafts: Toiletry Organizer Cabinet
iLoveToCreate Teen Crafts
Toiletry Organizer Cabinet
Avalon (and Andrew) Potter
Avalon and her dad had to make this week's project for iLovetoCreate because Mom was at the Southern Women's Show. They did a terrific job with this handy dandy bathroom organizer which makes a stylish storage solution! This is easy to hang on the wall above the toilet or by the sink. Av's plan is to put hair bands, cotton balls and bobby pins in the jars and keep some of her toiletries in the shelf unit. They sell these little cabinets in the wood section of the craft stores and the jars can be found in neighboring aisles. This is a great way to clear sink space and keep organized. Teen girls require a fair amount of beauty supplies, as do their moms who could also benefit from a shelf like this! Using Tulip stencils allowed them to add initials and the pouncers make quick and pretty work of the polka dots.

Easy Peasy Hairpins
Today's project is super, duper easy and fun. We're going to make/embellish some hairpins.
This is a great project to do with younger people as well because it's really easy. (While my son won't be wearing one, he was really excited to help make them.) The reason for this project is that I've been wanting to wearing my hair (not my makeup) like these pictures I found on Pinterest.
Then I saw these clips at Anthropologie and while I was tempted to get some, I figured making them would be inexpensive and easy.
So I purchased some hairpins and clips at Hobby Lobby and I also stopped at an antique shop and picked up some vintage earrings. I invited my crafty friend over and we worked together. It's a good project to do with a friend, because there are two hairpins to make from each earring set - one for each person.
After the supplies were assembled we broke out the secret weapon - Aleene's SUPER Gel Adhesive. I love this glue. It holds so well - even metal to metal. What I like about it the most is that it has a little brush in it just like nail polish. (Let's just say I've had some bad encounters with little tubes of super glue and there's still evidence on my kitchen table.) This stuff is way easier to use because of the brush.
I used some wire cutters to snap off the back of the earrings.
We brushed on some adhesive and added the earrings.
You only have to hold the pin to the earring for a minute or two until it's really on there and dry.
This clip was originally blank on top, but I happened to have little leaf beads that fit right in it, so I glued them on.
Buttons also work well for this project. You just have to use ones that don't have a loop on the back. I had my assistant select some for me.
I am excited to wear them now. The redish-brown one looked so cute in my friend's blonde hair.
It's a great five minute project with fun results.
Craft on!

Laundry Signs
I have a theory. I think that if a laundry room looks a little more decorated that you'll have a strong urge to do your laundry and it will even be fun. Okay, not really, but I'm still going to try to make a laundry room look cute today anyhow. These are a couple of signs for my mom's laundry room. They were fun and easy to make.
Here's a closer look at each one.
Here's how I did it. I cut a piece of cardboard (or two layers of cardstock) the size of the opening in the frame. Then I cut a piece of fabric a little larger than the cardboard to cover it. I used Aleene's brush on Super gel. (It's like super glue, but thicker. It dries super fast, which is always helpful. You could probably use her spray glue or decoupage as well.)
I printed off the words in a font I liked, cut them out, and antiqued the edges with a ink pad.
I attached the signs and everything else I added with Aleene's tacky dots. I love glue dots because they stick extremely well and there's no drippy or stringy glue.
I added buttons and a mini-clothesline with socks to the other.
Throw them in the frame and you're done.
Now, it's time to actually do some laundry.
