Festive Christmas T-Shirt DIY

Tulip Fashion Glitter sheets open up a world of DIY possibilities.  They can be punched and cut into all sorts of wonderful shapes, layered up and ironed on to t-shirts, pillows, throws, jackets, curtains and more.  I was inspired again by my favorite vintage Christmas ornaments, this time playing with the iconic mid-century modern shapes.  Just cut some out of paper (you can find templates online if hand drawing isn't your thing,) trace and cut the sheets, punch and cut accents, layer it all up and iron it on.  UseTulip fabric markers to add a few hand drawn details and you've got a boutique chic one of a kind DIY t-shirt that teens will love!

DIY Cat Ear Headband

Last winter while visiting Urban Outfitters, Avalon and I were both smitten with a fabulous rhinestone accented cat ear headband.  Avalon liked it so much, she wanted to make one for herself.  We put our heads together to devise a way to make one using black felt, Tulip Glam-it-up crystals in black and a store bought headband.  A thick craft wire to give it some stiffness and some Aleene's Fashion adhesives helped to bring it all together.

DIY Rorschach Test Backpack

This is one of those absurdly simple, low stress, maximum impact kind of crafts.  Most DIY back to school projects lean in the feminine direction, but this one could work just as well for a guy as a gal.  Use a washable white backpack (this is 100% cotton) and some black fabric paint and let your kid or teen do this themselves.  This would look fabulous in neon colors too, but I love the bold simplicity of the black and white.  They key is keeping it neat so you get a nice clean impression.  I'd give your teen a black Tulip fabric marker to take to school and let their friends write what they see on the backpack.  So it's interactive, fun and a great conversation starter.

DIY Glittered Body Art

Whenever I am at the boardwalk I see booths set up where you can get temporary glitter tattoos or other kinds of body art. As a little kid the thought of having glitter and butterflies all over my arms and face sounded rather delightful. Tulip’s body art is great because instead of paying someone for a one time tattoo you can get multiple stencils and colors that can be used time and time again. It is great for going to the beach, the pool, a party, or a sleepover with your friends. I have wanted to showcase Tulip Body Art in a tutorial for a long time now, so I hope you enjoy it and make some awesome designs of your own!
What you need:
Tulip Body Art Kit:
Blue Glitter
Silver Glitter
Adhesive
Small brush
Large brush
Dragonfly Stencil
Body Crystals
Remove stencil from backing and adhere to skin.  Rub gently to make sure there are no air pockets.
Brush glue on open areas of stencil.  We left stencil on for the next step, you can opt to remove it according to instructions.
Dip brush into glitter and pounce/pat into stencil. A generous helping is good!  We used blue for the body, head and wing tips and silver for the inside of the wings.  You have to work quickly or the glue will dry. It is similar to eyelash adhesive.
Remove stencil.  Use larger brush to gently brush off any excess glitter.
Use tweezers, pliers or a crayon to pick up crystals.  Dip them into glue and gently adhere to eyes of dragonfly.  Add more if you like!
That's it!  These are so easy and fun!  I'm going to bring them to my next sleepover and share them with my BFF!  I really love them and best of all, I love that they last several days, but not forever.
We'd love to see what you do with Tulip Body Art!  Visit us on Facebook and share your photos.  And visit my mom at DIY Doyenne for more fashion and style!

St. Paddy's Day Mason Jar Vase

iLoveToCreate Teen Crafts
St. Paddy's Day Mason Jar Vase
Avalon Potter

We love St. Patrick's Day around these parts, being of Irish descent.  Erin go bragh! Avalon wanted to make an Irish themed craft for St. Patrick's Day using a mason jar.  This mason jar vase is so simple to create and you can customize it however you like by cutting a different stencil, using different paint colors or adding a different message.  All you need is a mason jar, Crafty Chica Little Paints, a manilla folder, a tag, twine, Aleene's Tacky Dot Runner, a computer printer and a few coats of Aleene's Spray Acrylic Sealer.  In under an hour, you'll have a pretty vase for your favorite faux flowers.

Paint the outside of your jar white.  Two to three coats will be needed.  Let it dry completely before the next step.

Free hand draw a shamrock or find a permission free image online.  Ours is about 2" long and wide.

Use a craft knife and a cutting mat to cut your stencil out.

Use a Tulip pouncer to stencil green paint on front of jar.  Allow to dry.  (We liked the fuzzy edges, but you can, if you so choose, go back in with a small brush to clean the image.) Once paint is dry, spray 1-2 coats of Aleene's Spray Acrylic Sealer in matte finish.  Allow to dry.

Print text in green, using the KG Skinny Latte font at 28pts.  Cut text, use Aleene's Tacky Dot Runner to adhere to small kraft paper tag.

Use green and white baker's twine to attach tag to top of jar.

How to make Pretty Pastel Upcycled Can-tainers

How to Make Pretty Pastel Upcycled Can-tainers

"Teen Crafted, Mom Approved"

When Avalon started saving tin cans for a project, I really wasn't sure what she had in mind.  But once I saw these super cute upcycled can-tainers, I was instantly smitten.  These pastel colors are easy to mix by combining your Crafty Chica Little paint colors with white.  Use Aleene's Tacky Glue to attach the matching baker's twine to the top of your painted area.  Add liners if you like, toss in your toothbrush, make up brushes, combs...whatever clutters your sink top or vanity.   Mess managed, adorably!

Remove labels and any leftover adhesive before starting.  Tape off section you wish to paint with blue painter's tape.

Paint section with brush, one to two coats.  While paint is still tacky, remove tape and use a finger tip or cotton swab to gently remove any overlap.  Allow to dry.

Add baker's twine in coordinating color to top of painted edge.  Run a thin line of Aleene's Tacky Glue underneath to secure twine.  Avalon added some tiny pennants to one can for fun.

That's it!  How simply fabulous is that?

DIY Silvered and Glittered Frames

iLoveToCreate DIY Silvered and Glittered Frames
Cheap and Easy (Crafts)
Margot Potter The Impatient Crafter

Miss Avalon was sick this week, so I stepped in!  How fun are these DIY Silvered and Glittered Frames?!  Would you believe I scored these at our local Habitat for Humanity Re(store) for a whopping .40 cents? I've started a new feature on my blog called Cheap and Easy (Crafts) and these fit the bill.   All it took was a little paint, glue and glitter to spruce them right up, add some cut to fit vintage Christmas cards...and...shazam!  Cheap and easy!  You can do this with any ornate plastic or wood gold frames, they're easy to find at thrift stores, flea markets or even new at the discount stores.  Use unfinished wood for a shabby pickled finish.  You can find the paint, glue, glitter and pouncer all at iLoveToCreate!

Here's how you can make your own DIY Silvered and Glittered Frames faster than you can say, "Kris Kringle!"

Sailing, Sailing Op Art Decoupage Canvas

Sailing, Sailing Op Art Decoupage Canvas
Avalon Potter for iLoveToCreate Teen Crafts

Avalon made this simply chic op art style canvas using old book pages and cardstock on an inexpensive craft store canvas.  This is so easy to make and the variations on this theme are infinite.  Fiskars has some great shape cutters that make quick work of cutting squares that are easily halved into triangles.  Piece them together and adhere to your canvas with Aleene's decoupage medium in matte finish and you have a fabulous one of a kind work of art.  Best of all, you're the artist!

Materials
Canvas
Various colors of cardstock
Old book pages
Collage Pauge matte finish instant decoupage medium

Tools
Shape cutter square template
Shape cutter
Scissors
Pencil

Use shape template and cutter to cut 3" squares out of cardstock and old book pages. (You may need to mark and cut with scissors if your book pages are brittle.)

Mark half point on squares with pencil and cut with scissors into triangles.

Arrange triangles on canvas. Spread a layer of decoupage under each triangle and cover canvas. There will be overlap, go back after canvas is dry to cut this off. Cover entire canvas with decoupage medium, allow to dry. Do not worry about bubbles, they should go away when canvas has dried. You can use a wet finger to smooth them or a brayer. You can start in the center and work up and down canvas for a symmetrical effect.

(Disclosure: Blogger was provided some products and compensated for project, all opinions are 100% her own.)

'A' is for Awesome DIY Framed Initial

(It's another AWESOME DIY Teen Craft Project from the AWESOME Ms. Avalon Potter!)

A is for Awesome (Avalon and Autumn)
DIY Framed Initial
Avalon Potter foriLoveToCreate
'Teen Crafted, Mom Approved'

Autumn has always been my favorite season. The way the leaves form a masterpiece of color, and the crisp air rejuvenates the mind amazes me. Even though I have never been a large fan of Halloween (I don’t do scary), I still love the thick textures and shabby chic appeal that pops up during this time. I have a beach theme throughout my room the blends naturally with this style, so I am always finding new things I would love to hang up. I decided for this project I would make something that would go with the theme of my room and the theme of the season. I hope you enjoy it!

Materials
Weathered wood frame
Sturdy cardboard
Burlap
Wooden letter
Crafty Chica white paint
Aleene’s Fabric Fusion
Tulip Glitter Spray Paint diamond
120 grit sand paper
Paint the letter with the Crafty Chica white paint and let dry.

Measure and cut cardboard to fit inside of frame.

Glue burlap to fit cardboard with spray adhesive.  Glue one layer, allow to dry.
Glue second layer and allow to dry.

Trip burlap leaving a 1" edge.

Install burlap board into back of frame.

Sand paint in various spots to distress.

Spray glitter paint on paint brush and brush on letter. Allow to dry.

Use Fabric Fusion glue to adhere letter to center of burlap.
