How to Bling-Up a Lamp

Happy Hump Day! Jaderbomb here and I am super stoked to show you what I made with my new tool from I Love to Create! Now I am from the South (DEEP SOUTH) and if you know anything about us cajuns then you know we LOVE everything jazzed up.  No kidding, we bedazzle anything and everything. The only problem is you have to BUY everything jazzed up already and you are sorta limited to what you can get. NOT ANYMORE Y'ALL!!!!

Today I am going to show you a snazzy little tool that will allow you to put jewels EVERYWHERE!
I have so many ideas to use this for. Since Summer is right around the corner you can buy a plain bathing suit and add these jewels to the top part, decorate a onesie, an I-pad case, a pillow case and so much more.

This is also a really great craft for kids to do. Just make sure they are monitored because this tool gets REALLY HOT and we don't want them to burn themselves. How cute would that be!
Let's get started!!!

Wood Surround Glass Block Nightlight Featuring Liquid Fusion!

When you have an adult parent and child with ADD walking through the home improvement store together you're bound to get some crazy ideas. For instance, we came to the store to purchase something totally different for a totally different project but left with a couple of glass blocks and furniture grade oak boards. Why? Because I said to my dad, "wouldn't those things make a killer nightlight?"

As it turns out, it was also a great project to test out one of iLoveToCreate's newest products... Liquid Fusion!

Nanakuli Nightlight

I've always been smitten on soap with doll bodies stuck inside, cakes that look like doll dresses & vintage nightlights where a woman's skirt is the light source.  I actually have a skirtless base of one of these lamps sitting in my studio that was the inspiration for today's I Love to Create project.

SUPPLIES
Night Light Kit
Small Wooden Disc
Wooden Disc
Small Lamp Shade
Fabric Scrap
Doll
Scissors
Felt
Ribbons & Trim

First things first I had to get my naked doll dressed.  My mother and I fastened her frock out of a vintage piece of Hawaiian Muumuu and Fabric Fusion Glue.  You want to make sure the dress is long enough to cover not only the doll, but when you stand her on top of the small lamp shade the dress should also cover that.

Her dress needed a little something extra so we made her a felt bustier which was attached also using Fabric Fusion Glue.

We could have stopped there, but why playing dress up is so much fun.  With a few more last minute touches like a sun hat, gold belt and purple flowers we were ready to light our lady up.

After we were done playing Project Runway with our doll it was time to start constructing the base of the lamp.  Using Liquid Fusion Glue I attached a small wooden disc to the top of my lamp shade.

Once my wooden disc had tried atop my lamp shade I used Liquid Fusion Glue to attach my doll to the wooden disc.

My mother the queen of power tools drilled a large hole in the wooden base to stick the nightlight kit through.  She also bore out a small path for the wire to run so the lamp would still sit flat on a table.

All that was left to do was plug in my new nightlight in all her Hawaiian/Antebellum glory.

Peppermint Poodle Lamp Shade

When decorating for the holidays, no matter what holiday, don't be afraid to do a little rearranging. Those pictures are not glued to the wall, switch em' out every so often. Your kitschy trinkets are not bolted to the shelf try rotating them with some seasonal goodies. In the case of today's I Love to Create post I am further proving this point by showing you that there is no good reason why you should not swap lamp shades from time to time.

It all started when my mother recently gave me a new batch of vintage wrapping paper, which I collect and adore. This particular batch had some that was neon pink with lime green poodles and my knees about buckled. This wrapping paper needed to be displayed, adorned, worshiped and admired. What better way to showcase these pepperminty poodles than by covering a lampshade with them!

SUPPLIES
Lamp Shade
Collage Pauge Instant Decoupage Medium
Liquid Fusion Glue
Ball Fringe
Clothes Pins
Wrapping Paper
Scissors

CUTTING YOUR PAPER
Now I could have gotten all professional and measured my lampshade and cut the wrapping paper accordingly, but we all know I am not that kind of crafter. Instead I eyeballed it and cut my wrapping paper into strips a little bit longer than the length of the shade.

DECOUPAGE
I opted for Sparkle Collage Pauge, because after all everything is better with sparkle. I used a copious amount underneath and on top of my wrapping paper to adhere the paper to the lampshade. I intentionally made the paper longer than the shade so that I could fold the edges over into the inside of the shade giving myself a nice finished looking edge.

As with any time you are trying to cover something round there were a few spaces where the edges did not meet up and I had to do a bit of patchwork with the paper. Luckily the wrapping paper was such a busy pattern you can not tell.

BALL FRINGE
Using Liquid Fusion Glue I attached ball fringe to the bottom of my lamp. I used clothes pins to hold the fringe in place as it dried.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION
All that was left to do was to put my usual lamp shade in the attic for a winter's rest and put out my new poodlerific shade to shine. I think my new shade makes the bar look that much more inviting and a peppermint schnapps taste that much yummier!
