I am constantly getting inspired by the things around me. Whether it's something from the present or 8 years ago. The great thing about being a craft blogger is when you get struck with inspiration a craft tutorial magically appears.  Well, not magically but the process sure feels like magic I tell ya. I am super excited about today's post and I am sure you will be too. I will share with you 3 different ways to use this UP inspired decor.
Let's get started!

Monogrammed Bags, DIY

Along with working in "The Blog World" I have a regular 40 hour a week job, working with some amazing people. Associate Appreciation Week is this week and I wanted to make them something that was specifically tailored for each one of my them that shows  how much I value their hard work and dedication. I have always loved monogrammed bags so I thought that I would make each one of them a bag with their initials monogrammed it. Tulip made it so easy with their Spray and Tube Fabric paint.

DIY American Flag-Inspired Shorts

Fourth of July is right around the corner, and if you're like me you want to look fly for the holiday weekend..
.
because let's face it Jeshua...you're single and you need to make an effort... at some point.
 -_-

The other day I was shopping at an overpriced boutique store - and by shopping, I mean looking at everything saying "I could make that"- and I came across some denim cut-offs with an American (USA) Flag pattern painted on it.

I decided to do my own take on the painted denim. It's subtle enough to be worn all summer long and patriotic enough to be an Independence Day statement piece.

– A pair of denim shorts
– Sand paper
– Painter's tape

DIY Lace Fabric Spray Shorts

Did you know you can use Tulip Fabric Spray Paint to make cool designs over jeans, shorts, shirts and more?  Check out the shorts that Brandi did for her DIY on the Fly video.  This pair of shorts started out as white jeans, and Brandi turned them into lace pattern shorts with black Tulip Fabric Spray and leftover lace from the iLoveToCreate fabric stash.  Cool huh?  See the process from start to finish in the video below. After watching the video, we know your brain is going to be swirling with all kinds of ideas using this fun spray technique!

The spray works best on light colored fabrics, but there is a white (Snow) spray that works great on black!  Also, there are various sprays in glitter and neon finishes, so you can get all kinds of cool looks!

The exciting part is the reveal!! What does this product inspire you to spray?

Thrifting with a Crafty First Aid Kit

I can't tell you how many times I have seen something at a thrift store or flea market, fell in love and then realized it was damaged. Stained clothing, chipped paint or in my case peeling eye lashes *insert sound of needle scratching off a record here* yup I said peeling eyelashes. A stash of handy craft supplies is all that stands between you and perfect thrift store scores. Today for I Love to Create, I'll give you a few of my recent examples.

Hello Mr. Turtle Planter, when our eyes met it was kitsch love at first site. It was one of those moments where I could not grab him off the shelf quick enough for fear someone lurking nearby would swoop in and steal him from me. Needless to say there was no one around, but if there had been they would have surely wanted Terry I know it.

ANYWAY - Terry looks like he has had a bit of a rough night and is losing some of his eyelash glue. My first instinct was that he was damaged and I should not buy him since the lashes were one of the selling points (as if the bow time and hat were not enough). Then I thought to myself with a quick touch up using Tacky Glue Terry could be restored to his once glamourous self.

I recently started to notice that at the thrift store there is a distinct lack of clothing in 2T and 3T. Anyone who has a toddler knows why, clothing rarely makes it through toddler-hood unscathed. I can't tell you how many pieces of clothing Tallulah has ripped, stained and torn.

That being the case my theory is that there is hardly ever any toddler clothing worth donating to be much more than a rag. When I found this little black, white and teal top I was so excited at it's cuteness. I was not so excited about the small stains.

A few squirts of Tulip Spray Paint and I not only continued the ombre dye effect I also covered the stain and made the shirt even cuter. With Baxter venturing into the world of solid foods I expect I will be covering lot's of stained onesies with a quick dye job fix.

I love vintage glass art deco picture frames, the problem is finding them in pristine condition is not always an easy task. The frames often time are chipped and missing paint.

Never again should you snub a frame of any kind for a little chipped paint. All you need is a little Crafty Chica Paint and chips be gone.

Next time you find a second hand treasure that looks like it was loved a little too hard don't turn it away. Think of your crafty first aid kit and how you can easily make it new and improved!

  • Miscellaneous

    •   Permanent felt pen

    •   White fabric – 24” square
    •   Iron
    •   Newspaper
    •   Blow dryer – optional
    •   Safety pin
    •   Self-adhesive shelf paper
    •   Sewing machine with matching thread
    •   Ribbon – 2 yards per pillow
    •   Ruler
    •   Paper towels
    •   Sewing needle
    •   Coordinating fabric – 24” square
    •   Scissors
  • Patterns

    Instructions

    1. Cut out star pattern. Place on shiny side of shelf paper and use felt pen to trace around. Draw desired number of stars. To create dots, trace around a quarter and draw desired number of dots.
    2. Measure and cut white fabric into a 20” square. Cover work surface with newspaper then place fabric in center.
    3. Peel paper backing from circles or stars and randomly place on fabric. Run a fingernail around edges of shelf paper to prevent seepage.
    4. Test desired color of Fabric Spray Paint on paper towel. Holding bottle about 12” from surface, spray an even coat onto fabric. Let dry – a blow dryer will speed this step. Spray on another coat for more intense color. Let dry then carefully peel off shelf paper designs.
    5. Spray with a heavy coat of Diamond Glitter spray and let dry.
    6. To create white strip, measure and cut a 15” wide by 20” long strip of white fabric. Iron fabric into thirds lengthwise. Open up and place on newspaper.
    7. Use felt pen to trace desired word onto shelf paper. To create stencil, use sharp scissors to carefully cut out inside of each letter leaving edges intact. Peel off paper backing then position in center on strip. Press firmly along inside cut edges. Cover remainder of fabric with paper towels to protect from overspray.
    8. Spray three light coats within word letting dry between each coat. Remove stencil.
    9. Fold into thirds, and then sew a double stitch along both edges.
    10. Measure and cut pillow top and backing fabric to desired size. Center and pin white strip onto top of pillow then pin to backing fabric with right sides together. Sew around edges. Trim seams and clip corners.
    11. Use scissors to carefully cut an 8” wide slit about 5” up from bottom seam on back of pillow. Turn pillow inside out and iron smooth. Insert pillow form or polyfil then use needle and thread to sew opening closed.
    12. Cut a 12” length of ribbon. Loop remaining ribbon into bow then tie strip around center. Trim ends then use safety pin to attach at top of pillow as shown.
