Learn to make a Watermelon Pillow

I don't know about you but with all this cold weather I had the urge to do something that reminds me of sun, summer and grilling! I seriously can eat watermelon's every single day with a sprinkle of salt. I have this yummy watermelon salsa that I make and I can't wait to make some now!

Today I am going to show you how to make this fun, summery watermelon pillow using Tulip fabric markers. We are not using any fabric markers, we are using the new electric neon markers!!! I can't stress how much you need to get these. Kids love them as much as adults. The markers have a nice brush tip and makes coloring in things super easy. Not just that but the pigment is fabulous! Let's get started!

Halloween Burlap Pillows

With Halloween right around the corner I think it's time for us to start decorating our home! I am madly in love with burlap so when I love to Create came out with these burlap pillows my heart dropped to the bottom of the earth. Literally. OK, fine not literally but you get it right! There is something about a prickly pillow that makes me feel all warm and cozy. Maybe it's the fact that burlap kinda smells like a barn or feed store. I may be crazy but what can I say burlap is the bomb. Today we are making some fun and quick Halloween pillows so let's get started.

West Elm Inspired DIY Throw Pillows for Cheap!

I am the type of person that falls in love with something even if it is totally out of my price range so I DIY it up. In love with some West Elm pillows but not wanting to pay the price they were asking I held off but couldn't get my mind off of them. So I busted out the Tulip Metallic Paint and got after it myself and saved a cool 70 or so bucks!

Make Your Own Loteria Pillow

I love the look of the classic Mexican game, Loteria. It's kind of like Bingo, except there are tables of pictures with riddles instead of just calling out numbers. The imagery is gorgeous, and is always used in arts and crafts. So when iLoveToCreate came out with the new line of Tulip For Your Home and I saw all the motifs, I knew I'd be making Loteria pillow! Click below to see  how I did it - so you can too!

The Cat and the Canary No Sew Applique Pillow Tutorial

My sister and I are both undergoing some big changes in our home decor. We have enlisted the help of our father who is going to be building headboards and installing cabinets and a whole shebang of big time DIY. And since I can't just sit on the sidelines holding the tool bucket, I'm making pillows!

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to make the no sew appliques that can be applied to pre-made pillow covers. If you're of the frame of mind to bust out the sewing machine, though, I can show you how to make your own for tiny bucks. Either way you slice it, you'll have some super cute and one of a kind pillows.

Hello Pillow

While in the process of redecorating our family room, I wanted to add some pillows with personality.  This "hello pillow" was super easy to make.  I only needed a printer and my Tulip fabric markers.  Here's how I did it.

I found a telephone picture I liked from the internet and printed it out as large as I could.  I also printed out the word "hello" in a font I liked.  I purchased an inexpensive pillow cover at Ikea.
I placed the papers I printed inside the pillow so that I could trace them.  See how you can see through the fabric to the design?
Then I started tracing....
 ...and coloring.
And here's a picture of the fabric I'll be using to bring the room together.
I love a simple, easy project that's easy to personalize.

Fingerprint Balloon Pillow

I long time ago I came across a cute poster with a bike that had balloons tied to it.  I thought it would make a great pillow and our pillow covers are really worn out.  Here's how it came out.

I started with a blank pillow cover which I found at Ikea.  It was a few dollars and it has a nice zipper in it which is great for washing.  I created a freezer paper stencil of a bike.  (If you've never tried freezer paper stenciling I have a how to video HERE.)  You cut the paper and then iron it onto the fabric to seal it on.  I usually use paint with these stencils, but I thought I'd go for fabric markers this time around.

With a stencil it's super easy.  Even if you color out of the lines, it won't show because the stencil is forgiving.

Peel it off and your image is perfect.  After I removed the stencil I added a few lines for balloon strings.

Then colored my finger with Tulip fabric markers and stamped it to create ballooons.

I also use the Scribbles fabric stamp pads to get a wider variety of colors.  The finger stamping is really easy.  You can't do it incorrectly.

And here's the finished pillow.

I think it would make a cute shirt as well.

 7. How about this Wild Peace Pillow?

8. Kuba pillows. From IndigoArts.com:
Kuba pillows use the bold geometries and rich textures of vintage hand-woven raffia cloth from the Kuba people of the Congo. Left in its natural color or dyed with organic red, brown and ochre dyes, it is sewn into applique and reverse-applique, traditionally used in long wrap-around dancing skirts. The flat-weave fabric may also be tie-dyed, embroidered or decorated with cowry shells.

9. Look at this gorgeous tie dye pillow that Etsy seller, DyedStitches, made from diapers and towels! Once she adds her mixed media magic, those fabrics are transformed! We love that she thinks out of the box - cloth diapers? Awesome and oh-so-artful!

10. Tie dye can be used to make beautiful floral designs, just like this! Here is how to do it!
